Vanderbilt Eye Institute

The space formerly occupied by the heart institute has now been converted into office and clinical space for the ophthalmology group.  49,000 sq ft was completely reconfigured for the new use, including the addition of 2 elevators and creating a new atrium at the entry lobby.  Mechanical and electrical systems were completely revamped.  A new exterior appearance was created by replacing the curtainwall facade on 2 walls, adding a steel canopy at the most prominent building corner, and changing grades at the street and sidewalks at the main entry.

Orion Helping to Build a "Greener" World

Orion has made major strides in meeting the responsibility of an environmentally-conscience builder.  Two of our project managers, Marty Greenberg and Tim Luppe, have received their LEED™ Accredited Professional certification and the rest of our project management staff are working toward the same.  Orion also works to protect and replenish the environment through the purchase of over 350 trees per year.  We have adopted a philosophy of leaving our mark on society not only through building quality facilities, but also through helping protect our Earth for future generations.

Busy Summer at Vanderbilt University Campus

Construction signs are always visible on the Vanderbilt campus, especially during the summer months when less students, faculty, and staff are present.  Orion will be working on renovations at Benson Hall, Calhoun Hall, and Rand Dining Hall, and on replacement of the turf at the John Rich Practice and Wedgewood Recreation fields.  Work on each project is scheduled for completion before the fall semester begins.

Orion Employee Responds to Hospital Fire

Orion foreman, Tommy Collins, has been recently commended by Vanderbilt University Medical Center for his quick response in extinguishing a fire at the Vanderbilt Clinic. On June 11, a  storage room light fixture shorted out and caught fire when Vanderbilt housekeeping personnel entered the space and turned on the light switch. Working in a nearby construction area, Tommy was attracted by the commotion and quickly extinguished the fire.

Ken Browning, Director of Vanderbilt University Plant Services, cited Tommy for his response to the fire. “As a result of his quick and decisive action the damage was limited to a relatively small area.  Had he not responded as he did, many of our patients would have experienced delays in their critical cancer infusion therapy.  He contributed significantly to our mission of quality patient care and deserves to be recognized.”

The management and staff at Orion joins Vanderbilt Medical Center in thanking Tommy for going beyond the call of duty!
